Our Certifications
We learned how to scuba dive in January 2023 while on Rasdhhoo Island, Maldives. All of our training is through PADI. We received our Open Water (OW) certification and a license to learn! We took our Advanced Open Water (AOW) course in Cozumel, Mexico, in August 2024. We took the Nitrox specialty course in May 2025 on Gili Air, Indonesia. In May 2026, Sara took the Rescue Diver course. It’s the hardest, but most rewarding! If you want to become not only a better diver, but also a better buddy, take this course! Sara now has more than 120 logged dives, and Dan has more than 100 logged dives. Unbelievably, we have never been diving in the United States, but we support our local dive shops and regularly attend the Scuba Show in Long Beach, CA.
Dive Equipment
BCD: We both use the ScubaPro HydrosPro with Air2. We purchased them in October 2024, and they are fantastic!
Regulators: We both use the ScubaPro MK19 EVO/D420 regulator.
Fins and booties: ScubaPro Seawing Nova. Sara wears a thin fin sock and Cressi short booties; Dan wears a short pair he found on Amazon.
Mask and snorkel: ScubaPro (varies).
Computers: Shearwater Peregrine TX with Sirius w/GPS transmitter. Our backup computers are the Cressi Leonardo and ScubaPro Matrix Sport. We purchased the Shearwaters in June 2026.
Wetsuit: This is entirely a personal preference. When diving in tropical waters (everywhere we’ve been diving, really), a 3/2 full wetsuit is plenty. Ours are by O’Neill; most of the time, Sara dives in a pair of SPF swim leggings and a long-sleeved rash guard and is never cold. The cenotes in the Yucatan are in the mid-70Fs. Full coverage is recommended to protect from sunburn, jellyfish, fire coral, or other abrasions.
